How Do I Install My Car Battery Properly?

  1. Make sure your car is in park with the parking brake engaged. Pop the hood and remove the battery cover if present.
  2. Loosen the nut connected to the negative (black) cable on the battery and remove the cable. Repeat the process with the positive (red) cable.
  3. Loosen and remove the hold-down clamp, then remove the old battery with both hands. Be sure to dispose of your battery in an appropriate facility according to your local laws.
  4. Prepare your new battery. Apply anti-corrosion spray to the terminals of the battery. Not only does this help prevent damage, but also helps your car start during cold weather in Fenton.
  5. Check the battery tray and hold-down clamp for any signs of corrosion. If you notice any residue, clean it with the battery cleaner and wire brush. Once the area is clean, place the new battery in the tray and attach the clamp.
  6. Reattach the positive (red) cable and then the negative (black) cable.
  7. Make sure everything is tightened and secure.
  8. Replace the battery cover and close the hood.
